the rings specifically have to be north one side and south the other, right? I notice sometimes the ring ends up turning over.. if it's the other way around can this be dangerous? should I make the rings more tighter?

The plastic ring is adjustable. Make it tighter I guess. Make sure that one finger is N top S bottom and the other is S top N bottom. Don't screw that up. The + repels +.
