The chinese invented the compass. Europeans took the compass from chinese and altered it. Originally the north needle should point to north pole of magnet. But now, in electrical text-book standard, the north needle always points to south pole of magnet. Another word, the south pole of a magnet is actually the north pole of earth. And the north pole of magnet is south pole of earth. I don't know why it's so confusing, but that's the way how it's set up in text books. I am an electrical major.


: Alex. On your "How to make the device" page, you had the compass pointing the wrong direction. The north needle should point to the north of the magnet. But you wrote "North needle points to south of magnet". You should correct that error.
